Welcome to the Official Lorraine Evans Blog 2024!
Well, after much deliberation, I have finally decided to take the plunge and produce a weekly blog. This is in addition to the upcoming new monthly newsletter and sister blog on the Morte Photography website. There are some out there that will no doubt question this decision, especially when considering the vast number of social media and social networking tools we currently have at our disposal. The simple truth, for me personally, is that social media today has become overly saturated, whereby it is often difficult to a) make a presence in your specialist field(s) and/or b) find others with similar interests as yourself. The notion of this new blog lies at the heart of my experimentation with new forms of marketing and trying to figure out how to more effectively and efficiently share information, on the one hand, and connect with like-minded folks on the other.
Another reason for deciding to write this blog was due to the numerous inquiries as to whether I had a Patreon account or not. I do not, and will not. Don’t get me wrong, I have nothing against those that do, but it is not my cup of tea, so to speak. I am vehemently against the implementation of paywalls within academia, or otherwise, and thus believe in open access for all. If you do wish to support my research, or show your appreciation, then I would rather you simply Buy Me A Coffee (coffee cup on main page/QR code) or purchase a small item from the Shop, which will be selling an array of death related items. The new Shop will be opening shortly.
So what can you expect? In this blog, I will share extended news items and releases, new research topics, the machinations of being an archaeologist/historian/author, archaeological discoveries, my travels, book reviews and so on. I expect that other ideas and topics will come up along the way and hope you will find them interesting.
If it isn't immediately obvious, naturally you will be exposed to my views. But no matter how pessimistic they have become over the years, you are more than welcome to respond, add comments and suggestions. Even disagree. All I ask is that we maintain a civil discourse and keep our comments relevant to the conversations taking place. In this way we can maintain respect for all those involved and add value and depth to the discussion.
I do moderate comments and will quickly remove any that are offensive, disrespectful or irrelevant. This also includes SPAM advertisement. However, if you truly want to add to the conversation and engage, then I welcome your perspective. Oh, and please don't post any private information as this is a public forum. I might repost your comments and/or try to reach you to add more depth to the discussion.
So, without further ado…………..
